The Missing Wedding Dress

The Story

One of my best friends became a celebrant recently.

He needed some content photos so he asked us to be a part of a wedding photoshoot. I just kinda thought if you’re getting married you need a hat to mark the occasion (as if getting married wasn’t big enough) but Hats are nostalgic. They take you back to the time you wear them. Just like people get tattoos on travels to mark the memory. I kinda think it’s like that.

So the hat was a little more subtle on the outside. Which is a clear indicator that it’s gotta be bursting with colour on the inside. It’s like a wedding, everything proper and nice on the outside but deep down inside everyone’s flourishing with colour.

Anyway, it’s fun playing dress-ups. I even got to keep the pseudo wedding dress when I parlayed a deal with my drunken celebrant friend in after drinks for the mock wedding.

“What do you want it for ? to play dress up in?” He slurred at me.

Yeah, maybe the thought had crossed my mind, BUT only for a second. My mind was on bigger and better things, I wanted to chop that dress up and lay the beautiful crochet as a binding in a hat I was working on.

The hat I made was underwhelming, it just had too much. But the hat I made for the wedding remained my favourite. Why? Who knows? Less is more? Or something? That’s why it’s here on this list and not the silken bridal hat.

My mate wanted the dress back, he was convinced that I was still using it for my own dress-ups. But the truth dawned on him when I gifted him the hat with a cut-up wedding dress on it. He appreciated the gesture I’m sure but his lips couldn’t hide the truth that the dress had been a rental and had cost him a small fortune to replace.

But he’s a successful wedding celebrant right now with an atrocious bridal dress as a hat. The truth is, I should’ve just be stuck with my gutsies and kept the wedding dress for dress-ups.
