The Story
I bought a Van when my life turned upside down.
Everything I had, I’d lost.
I hadn’t made any major mistakes either, and I tried to treat everyone how I’d like to be treated. That’s just the way the cookie crumbles I guess. I’d spent thousands working on my brand, I’d spent incalculable hours on my film. And it all just fell apart. Instead of facing the issues, I ran. I bought a Van. I had my life in it and I travelled around the east coast.
I kept thinking I was running from my problems. But I was loving it, surfing, skating, and reading heaps of Nietzsche, seriously I know how pretentious it sounds!
When I was ready to drift back into my life I was a different person. I’d been around. I’d collected little trinkets. discovered little nooks and secrets inside and out. I’d been drifting for months living like a Hobo and I realised nothing really mattered. My issues of the months before weren’t even issues. Yeah, I’d lost money, but I’d been traveling with no money so I was used to it.
My hats also changed. This hat was a wanderer. It’s a collection of small events that led to me being homeless for a few months (homeless in the metaphoric sense) I’d lost all direction but was suddenly content with a long black instead of my 3/4 full, oat flat white with a half chocolate dusting on top.
The long black tasted better. The truth, the bitterness of it. No direction was my direction. I thought I was running away from something but In fact, I was sprinting towards something, and what I found was a feeling. And I have no idea how to put that into words…
—So I made this hat instead.

Quote on hat:
“A man who leaves home to mend himself and others is a philosopher, but he who goes from country to country, guided by the blind impulse of curiosity is a vegabond”
